Calmness Under Pressure

The world is changing faster than ever before. This has created an environment where staff are struggling with the changes, many are anxious and burning out, while others have disengaged. Our ability to lead and purposefully adapt is vital.

Right now with all the shifts in the way we connect and do business, now more than ever we need leaders who can maintain their calm under pressure.

Being a leader in this new era requires more than just quick thinking and knowledge management. To effectively lead your teams through the chaos and complexity, you need to be able maintain your calm no matter what situation arises or how quickly things change.

As a leader you require better composure and authentic presence if you want to make effective decisions, maximise others’ potential, and enable the highest levels of performance.

It’s impossible to go through life without experiencing some form of adversity. We all face challenges at one point or another in our lives – it could be an organisational restructure, a mental illness, a bad break up with your partner, and even just dealing with everyday stress of work can leave you feeling shattered mentally, emotionally, and physically!

So how do you make better decisions, create higher staff engagement, and collaborate for optimal performance?

I believe it all starts in the way you cultivate and harness your vital skills of maintaining calmness under pressure.

Because when you are in a state of inner balance and composure, you:

  • Think better through your integrated intelligences,
  • Are more aware of your own thoughts, emotions and sensations,
  • Are more aware of external cues and patterns, and
  • Are more empathetic with other people’s experiences and perspectives.

All these enable you to think and act in more adaptive, humanistic, and impactful ways.

Integrated from my personal experience growing up in a civil war, surviving severe depression and PTSD, serving in the Australian Army as an infantry officer and a rifleman, treating PTSD, depression and anxiety as a clinical psychologist, coaching leaders and executives, and facilitating hundreds of leadership development experiences, I share what works in creating one of the most critical requirements for thriving through adversity and challenges: that is, your skill of being calm under pressure.

If you are a conscious and conscientious manager or leader, who wants to make better decisions and have more meaningful connections for yourself and your team, feel free to book a discovery session with me to discover and capitalise on your growth opportunities.
